The Codex was originally published by Franco Maria Ricci in 1981; this deluxe edition from Rizzoli is folio-sized and features a new introduction by Serafini, plus a signed viewing card and booklet of interpretation, all housed in a presentation clamshell box.** Luigi Serafini (b. 1949) is an Italian artist and designer based in Milan. He is best known for creating the Codex Seraphinianus, an illustrated encyclopedia of imaginary things in what is believed to be a constructed language. In a talk at the Oxford University Society of Bibliophiles held on 11 May 2009, Serafini stated that there is no meaning hidden behind the script of the Codex, which is asemic; that his own experience in writing it was closely similar to automatic writing; and that what he wanted his alphabet to convey to the reader is the sensation that children feel in front of books they cannot yet understand.** Edition of 600 copies, 300 in Italian and 300 in English. Signed and numbered by the author. This is copy #281/600.** "Postage for oversized and international shipping will be calculated by size and weight. AbeBooks shipping quotes are ESTIMATES only. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - CODEX SERAPHINIANUS DECODED. For forty-five years, the Codex Seraphinianus has been the world's most beautiful unread book. Luigi Serafini's illustrated encyclopaedia of an alien world. 359 pages of impossible plants, surreal animals, bizarre machines, and anatomies that could never exist h…as captivated readers since 1981. The script that fills its pages is flowing, hypnotic, and, Serafini claimed, entirely meaningless. He was lying. Using Marco Ponzi's neural-network transliteration of 41,107 Serafini words, morphological analysis of an agglutinative grammar, and a 72-band frequency translation framework, this book presents the first complete English translation of the Codex Seraphinianus, page by page, chapter by chapter. Inside: - The full story of how the Codex was decoded.- Page-by-page translations for all 11 chapters.- Discover that Chapter 5 describes ape-shaped steam automata in fog-filled chambers.- Learn why Chapter 8 is where the script describes itself: it is the book's hidden jewel.- Find the glossary on pages 357-358 that Serafini left at the back of his own book, the Rosetta Stone nobody noticed for 45 years>SERAPHINIANUS TABLE OF CONTENTS: 1.
