A. Belcher, To Promote The Forthcoming 1924 British Empire Exhibition. The Tour Lasted From January 20 To December 1, 1922 (It Was On The Tour That Christie Wrote The Short Stories Which Would Form All Of Poirot Investigates (1924) And Most Of The Contents Of Poirot's Early Cases (Published In 1974). Dining With Belcher Before The Trip, He Had Suggested Setting A Mystery Novel In His Home, The Mill House At Dorney, Naming The Book The Mystery Of The Mill House And Insisted On Being In It As Well. She Raised No Objections However As The Evening News Were Paying Her £500 (£21,141 In Current Terms) For The Serial Rights Which She And Her Family Considered An Enormous Sum.[ At Archie's Suggestion, She Used The Money To Purchase A Grey, Bottle-Nosed Morris Cowley. Set in an English country manor, the story revolves around the wealthy Emily Inglethorp's sudden poisoning. Hastings narrates as Poirot unravels red herrings, family tensions, and cleverly planted clues to reveal a surprising culprit. Its printing history is notable: first published in the U.S. by John Lane (1920) and shortly after in the U.K. by The Bodley Head (with John Lane) in 1921. Early editions featured different chapter arrangements and endings before Christie standardised the text, making it a foundational work of modern detective fiction.

Product Information The Murder on the Links is a work of detective fiction by Agatha Christie, first published in the US by Dodd, Mead & Co in March 1923 and, in the same year, in the UK by The Bodley Head in May. It features Hercule Poirot and Arthur Hastings. The story takes place in northern France, giving Poirot a hostile competitor from the Paris Sûreté. Poirot's long memory for past or similar crimes proves useful in resolving the crimes. The book is notable for a subplot in which Hastings falls in love, a development "greatly desired on Agatha's part. parcelling off Hastings to wedded bliss in the Argentine." Reviews when it was published compared Mrs Christie favourably to Arthur Conan Doyle in his Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Remarking on Poirot, still a new character, one reviewer said he was "a pleasant contrast to most of his lurid competitors; and one even suspects a touch of satire in him (Wikipedia).

Minuscule bumps to top and bottom right corners of front board. Neat ink name and date (1926)to front pastedown. A little light foxing to half title and title page. 298 pages, generally very clean indeed. Tight, firm text block. Minimal rubbing to spine. Presented in new mylar. Although lacking its exceptionally rare dustwrapper, this is in Very Good Plus condition. A highly collectable classic early Christie and a fast appreciating asset.
